I am delighted to offer my services as a Doula, having been trained by Kicki Hansard at the Birth Bliss Academy. As a mother of two teenage daughters, I am passionate about wanting to help mothers achieve the best possible birthing experience from pregnancy through to the early stages of welcoming baby into your family home.
A Doula is a non-medically trained professional who works alongside doctors and midwives to provide support to mothers during pregnancy, the birth process and even at home after the baby is born. Offering physical, emotional and practical support and encouragement is a key essential in the relationship between a Doula, the mother and her partner. My experiences and training in Hypnobirthing and Meditation are particularly beneficial to mothers during their birth experience.
Women can give birth in hospital, at a birth centre or in their own home. For a home birth, two qualified midwives with necessary equipment will attend the birth. Whatever your preference, I am able to support you.
During the antenatal stage, we meet twice to assess your needs, vision and desires for birth, define and understand our expectations of one another, and provide you with useful tools for labour and birth (see Hypnobirthing and Meditation sections). We will also spend time creating or discussing your birth plan.
For birth support, I will be available on call to assist you 24/7 from weeks 38-42 of your pregnancy. Wherever possible, I will also travel with you when you go into labour and then be present throughout the birth of your baby.
After the arrival of baby, I will visit you twice to ensure you feel supported and encouraged as a new mother, to discuss any aspects of feeding or sleeping and to reflect upon the birthing process for you and your partner.
Additional Postnatal Services
As a postnatal Doula, I am able to assist you in your home as you settle into early life with your new arrival. This can range from assisting with the day-to-day practical tasks around the home, relieving you of time with your baby to enable you to rest or recuperate, to supervising other siblings. I can accompany you to appointments or support with settling baby into an established routine. The aim is to help you and your family get off to the best possible start together. I can fit in with your family’s circumstances, am flexible and non-intrusive.
